About Mike
The richest guy in our family back in Ireland made his money in real estate and I thought that would be a fine place to start. In 1974, shortly after arriving on Long Island, NY I cut my first real estate deal when I persuaded a local real estate broker to trade me the contract on an old house and some land in exchange for painting his office building. Ever since that deal and the profit it generated, I have become what can only be described as a Real Estate Evangelist. In a desire to get as much knowledge as possible in the commercial investment property and play with the big guns, so I took the excellent courses on investment real estate offered by the CCIM Institute.
CCIM Institute was established by the California Association of REALTORS® in 1954 under the name Certified Property Exchanger (CPE), the CCIM designation took on national significance in 1967 under administration by a division of the National Association of REALTORS®. In 1969, the designation was renamed Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM). A council was established to administer the designation, and in 1991 it was granted institute status as an affiliate of National Association of Realtor’s. Now, with more than 19,000 members in 33 countries and 61 chapters worldwide the CCIM Institute has emerged as a truly global organization and the real advantage to the local investor is they get to work with a broker that would previously have worked only with institutions or syndicators, aka the big guns.
Since I was in New York, the financial capitol of the world I got educated on the ways of the financial world but even while I plied my skills as a Wall St. Broker for a number of years, the value of real estate investments in a portfolio were always considered essential to building a nest egg much to the chagrin of my colleagues there.
With 30 plus years of experience in both real estate and financial investment markets I’ve developed some opinions and from time to time I might offer an opinion and only because everyone is entitled one. Please remember it’s an opinion, not advice. I encourage you to seek advice from the professionals, because you’ll have to pay for it and it will them be something you’ll appreciate and perhaps follow the guidance given. I have established a reputation of competence within the Real Estate Investment arena and I assist the Estate Planning, Legal & Accounting Professions with their client’s assets and estate settlements. I have become known as the dead mans Realtor because most of the properties I handle are for Estate Settlement of Trust and Probate Property Sales, which includes everything from family residences to large apartment complexes.
